"Yomiuri Institute of Technology" was founded in 1969 by Yomiuri Shinbun, the most widely circulated newspaper publisher in the world.
Presently, there are 2 colleges offering 12 courses in the Tokyo Metropolitan area, namely "Yomiuri College of Medicine and Welfare" , with 3 courses: Care-giving Welfare, Medical and Engineering (Architecture, Electrical and Broadcasting, and Mass media) courses, and "Yomiuri College of Auto Mechanics" with an Engineering course (Auto mechanic).

 Courses offered and details of the department

Social Welfare Course   Care-giving Welfare Department 2 -year term
Putting high value on practical care-giving skills, the aim of this course is to train humanitarian service specialists required in this age of welfare.

Healthcare Professional Course   Clinical Engineering 3-year term
Medical knowledge as well as the basics and application of handling medical equipment are studied.
The aim of the course is to train specialists who can become part of a medical team in the future.

Engineering Professional Course   Interior Design Department 2-year term
Based on architectural knowledge, the aim of this course is to create designers with distinctive character who can design shops specializing in interior products, etc.

Architectural Department   2-year term
The aim of this course is not only to acquire the necessary knowledge and techniques as an architect but also to create a wide range of employment opportunities from architectural design firms to construction offices.

Civil Engineering Department   2-year term
Wide range of knowledge and skills is acquired through classes that are practical on-site, such as material experiments and surveying practice, etc. Training personnel who are valuable on-site is the aim of this course.

Electrical Engineering Department   2-year term
Focusing on electrical engineering, a wide range of knowledge and techniques of electronics and telecommunications is acquired with emphasis on experiments and laboratory training.
Skills are acquired so that a variety of employment related not only to electrical engineering but also in the electrical and electronics field can be obtained.

Broadcasting Department   2-year term
Consists of 3 courses: Program Production, Image Editing, and Directing.
Specialized knowledge and skills regarding necessary facets in program production such as the operation of TV cameras, lighting, sound, art, virtual studio, editing and program planning are acquired.

Mass Communication Production Department   2-year term
Knowledge and skills relating to mass media production including printed literature such as magazines and bulletins as well as web site contents.

Auto Mechanics Department   2-year term
Aim to qualify as an auto mechanic. The school has been accredited by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, thereby entitling the graduates to take the national auto mechanicªs examination.


*The textbooks used in class as well as the lectures are in Japanese. *There are foreign students slots depending on the department.

 Foreign student admission

Since the establishment of the institute, over 300 foreign students mainly from Asian countries such as China, South Korea and Vietnam have been enrolled.
Presently, over 10 students are enrolled in the 2 colleges and are studying electrical engineering At first, international students may feel apprehensive due to differences in language and lifestyle.
However, the close support of classmates and teachers will help you overcome your concerns in no time.
If you are an international student studying at your own expense, you may apply for the "Special International Students Scholarship" .
If you meet the entrance conditions for an international student (interview and Japanese proficiency), and are accepted for one of the departments of the two colleges, you are entitled to receive the scholarship.

Special International Students Scholarship
If applied, _ of the entrance fee will be exempted from the fee paid at the time of entrance.
Application period: November 1, 2007 - February 28, 2008

Qualifications for enrollment
The following requirements must be met for enrollment:
1.   One who has completed 12 years of school education.
2.   One who meets one of the following requirements:
   _One who has received 6 months or more education at a Japanese Language School certified by the Education
Development Association
   _One who has acquired Grade 2 or higher in the Japanese language proficiency test
   _One who has passed the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (200 points or higher in Japanese language)
3. One who has a definite place of contact during stay in Japan
4. One who is able to cover 2 years worth of schooling and living expenses

International Students Test
Those meeting admission requirements must take and pass the International Students Test prior to application.

*Please be sure to visit the school prior to application and receive briefing.

3.   High school transcript (from home country)
4.   Graduation certificate and attendance record from Japanese language school (in Japan)
5.   Graduation letter and attendance record from Japanese language school (in Japan)
6.   Foreign registration card and copy of passport
7.   Educational background certificate
8.   Survey regarding application
9.   Contact in Japanese
10.  Written agreement by international student
11. Survey regarding the method of payment for schooling and living expenses (bank account, etc.)
12. Interview notice・・・・for those who have passed the international student examination

14.  350 yen worth of stamps
